  • Pohick Fun

Went out to Pohick as planned this morning. The wind was a little stronger than I'd hoped but we still tried for to catch something on top. I had one bite but after an hour it was clear we were doing it all wrong. I couldn't believe I didn't have a spinnerbait to try in the current to save the day. The tide was WAY in so John (jffoley) thought we should head back down one of the creeks as far as we could. He was right! It was a great find and none of us had ever been down this feeder creek. It was pretty steady non stop action for a couple hours and an endless supply of 2-3lb fish. No snakeheads but still fun! Lots of snakes, beavers, geese, and turtles out this morning. One beaver was pretty upset we were near his home and let us know it with a couple of good loud tail slaps.

the beavers do seem territorial, at least with us yakkers. i was out at night and one came right up next to me in the quiet of pitch black and did that 'cannonball' noise startled the heck out of me! took me a minute to figure out what it was; mostly based on seeing his lodge earlier. then he went around the area repeating the noises, i guess to scare all the fish away, or just show he was still mad

congrats on getting some good fishing in, and thanks for sharing.

A steady pick of 2-3lb fish sounds like an awesome day. Nice going. I wish I had time to join you guys today, but it wasn't in the cards.

Jack summed it up pretty well. It was like a different world from the main bay and the coves going way back in that creek. I didn't get pics of the bigger fish. I got one that was about a circle it was so fat!

That's some nice habitat there. I enjoyed the photos. Good work on the bass!

Nice photos, John. That place looks like it was made for kayak fishing.
