  • Janes Island in November

I'll be camping at Jane's Island on the first weekend of November and will bring my Outback for some fishing. I've done a very limited amount of kayak fishing in this area last summer. I was wondering what I could expect in November? Will specks still be around? Reds? Maybe the cooler temps will bring more rockfish in shallow?

If anyone's fished here in November I'd love to hear your experiences/tips.

If we have a warm fall the specks may still be around that area come November, but that time of year it only takes one really good cold front to put an end to that bite.

What red-beard said. If the temps stay mild, you can reasonably expect them some specks to still be around. Stripers will be in the area for sure; they really never leave. And don't be afraid to go way up into the skinny marsh creeks and ponds off the main water bodies to hunt for stripers. I've never had much success with puppy drum in that area aside from a scattered one here and there.

Thanks guys. I dug through the FishTalk archives and read weekly reports for the last 2 weeks of October and first 2 weeks of November, dating all the way back to 2018. All those reports shared the same sentiment - stripers should be around (maybe even in good numbers) and specks are typically around unless a cold snap has driven them out.

Just judging from what I'm hearing from my father and uncle who both live in Crisfield, the puppy drum never really showed up this year. Folks are catching big reds on live bait in areas that I could never reach by kayak, but nothing really in spots where I caught them years back. Even worse, they say the speck bite was down as well. Hopefully fall brings better fortunes (and less mosquitoes/green heads).

Thanks for that info Scorchy - not encouraging but very useful nonetheless
