Family time, work, and life in general, keeps me pretty busy so when it comes to fishing I try to make the most of it. I very seldom venture into new areas. I tend to stick with my normal spots. Today was different. I have been wanting to try a particular area and decided to go for it today.
After going over the area via google maps, I picked two places I wanted to set up on and try. Found a soft launch that would put me right smack in my first location and the current would take me too the second. Got to launch at 730am to find a super high tide that was receding. It was foggy also so I took my time unloading.
Short paddle got me to the first hole. It was just a 35ft hole at the mouth of a creek. Fish up current, down current, all around the hole with only nibbles. Finally gave up after about two hours of nothing and proceeded to the second location. Second location was a bend. On the outside bend it mimicked the same location Paxmule and a friend of my fished on Labor Day. Had standing and falling timber with a deep channel. Anchored on a 25ft ledge and waited. It was on my mind that more than likely I wasn’t going to have non stop action but whatever I caught was going to be big. After about 20 minutes I ask the Lord to please bless me with a fish. I reeled in my right rod to reposition it soon as I get the line in my left rod goes down hard. A big 33 incher! It was a good fight plus the fish and I entertained about 11 other kayakers.
Right after releasing that fish I caught another fish for the cooler. I waited and waited a long 45 more minutes and as I was calling it quits the same left rod started to bounce. I reeled in the other rod to start packing up. Told myself if it bounces again I’ll reel down hard on it. Sure enough it bounced so I reeled down and brought in a nice 27 incher to finish the morning. Great day out
