  • Blue cats on the susquehanna

I was thinking of heading to the Susquehanna to look for blue catfish tomorrow. I’ve never fished this area before. Any suggestions on where to start?

And by where to start, I meant more suggested places to launch.

Lapidum at Susquehanna State Park or near the marina park at Port Deposit are probably your best public access points. Jean Roberts is still closed for renovation. The deeper east side of the river tends to be better. A lot of folks start around the railroad bridges and work their way down. Let us know how you do!

Thanks. Do you usually drift or anchor? I was drifting.

Good fish, especially for spawning season. Looks like that one has already finished and started gorging.

For there I usually drift because the waters so deep. If it’s less than 40’, I anchor sometimes - it just takes a lot of rope. Usually 1 rod on each side and light pedaling to control the drift.
