Little Choptank

Visited this river earlier this week and was able to land 3 healthy 21+” Stripers. They were caught and released-healthy-by casting an Electric Chicken paddletail. Beautiful day there-no to little wind, falling tide, and clear water.

The weather that day was fabulous. Catching was another story. John R. and I paddled for over 4 hours and more than 10 miles. We did a bit of casting and a lot of trolling. In all that time, I had only 4 bites. Ironically, two of those bites happened at the same time as both rods went down hard while I moved across a grass bed in 3.5 ft depth. The fish on the first rod pulled hard and broke the 10-lb braided line. I managed to land the fish on the second rod -- a 29" striper. That fish was released too. I was trolling 3" paddletails on 1/8-oz jigheads. We struggled for much of the day with clumps of floating grass that quickly fouled our lures.

Those are great sized fish for this time of year. My average catch has been in the low-mid teens the last couple weeks, with a only few in the upper-teens/low-20's mixed in.

They wasn’t a lot of them, but they were active and healthy looking. Back in the water in a minute.
