Sweet! i've caught snapping turtles on a fishing rod in the past when using nightcrawlers for trout in streams. They are usually not very happy. I've even had one try to steal trout off of my stringer, sometimes they are pretty brazen...

I've heard that the stench when you open the shell is horrendous. My buddy worked as a chef at a private club where he had to make turtle soup at least once a month and he said that, while it tastes great, he couldn't stand making it.Originally posted by CB kayak 02 View PostI thought about tailing it, turtle stew is supposed to be good, but I would have no idea where to start.

Awesome turtle! Your blog's looking really good... sweet videos... you'll have your own fishing show soon.
Btw, according to page 6 of the DNR Fishing Guidebook:
In short, you have to catch it with your hands, feet or teeth. It is illegal:
16. For a person to catch snapping turtles from waters of the State by hook and line, trotline, bow and arrow, net, seine, fishpot, or other fishing rig, spear, gig or iron or any device capable of piercing any part of the turtle at any time.
