  • May Meet and Greet 5/12/2012

Thanks again to Nay_Sayer for heading up this months Meet and Greet. It was even nice of him offering his house up as the destination for eats and drinks. It definitely put a different twist on it.

It was a beautiful day with temperatures warming up fast to 80 degrees. The wind was light and it was amazing how clear the water was . You could see almost 5 or 6 feet down. Herring bay is a nice spot, I cannot wait to fish there at night or later in the summer. The good news is that the M&G was great. The bad news is that the fish did not cooperate. There were many sunks today. Not a single perch in site. I was able to catch one 16 inch striper at the rock jetti. SurDog caught at least 3 and lost a few bites. I heard another kayaker caught a small striper also. Well, that was it for the fishing. We launched by 7am and was back to shore by noon or there abouts to start getting ready to head over to Nay_Sayer's place. Not everyone joined us after fishing for the anti-fish fry gathering. There were at least 11 of us that made it over to his house. Since there was no fish to fry, we still made due with hotdogs, (with chilli), turkey burgers, pickles, potatoe salad, macaroni salad, beer, sodas, brownies, coleslaw, and corn.

All I can say, I must have covered 8 miles in search of perch to no avail. I am beat, and when I got home I crashed on the couch for a few hours. It was still a fun time despite the lack of keeper fish.

Thanks for the report and pictures. Too bad the fish weren't cooperative. I'm sad I missed this m&g.

Thank to everyone for making today such a great time. The food and company were superb.

Sorry for the missing fish. The fish heard we were coming, got scared, and swam away

I also extend my thanks to Nay_Sayer for organizing the M&G and for hosting a cookout at his home.

I have never seen May water clarity in the mid-bay area as good as I saw yesterday. After leaving the launch, I paddled east to Holland Pt. I was startled to see objects on the bottom in 4 ft of water. However, once I rounded Holland Pt into the main bay, the water clarity dropped off again.

I trolled slowly all the way south to Chesapeake Beach and back again without getting a lure touched. Fortunately it was a calm, beautiful morning for a paddle and some exercise.

yeah nay_sayer did an excellent job getting this together except for the fish thanks!

i cant believe i hooked a 20" striper on my 1st cast and the second on the 3rd cast using a new xrap 08 yellow perch color and had 3 more pull downs that got loose. a lot of fun on a 6'6" light rod with 8# test.

went out this morning to the mouth of the severn and hooked another small rock and 2 small w perch, fishing has been off lately i hope it picks up soon

I started to track my progress halfway through the outing. Moc & I ventured out far in search of a nibble.

Sorry to hear the fishing was slow, but the barbecue afterwards sounded like fun. I'm sorry I missed it.
