  • Severn Crabbing/Fishing 5/26

My wife and I got out for some crabbing and fishing on the Severn river today. We left Tucker St ramp at about 7am and set out for my crabbing and fishing spot on the main river.

Set the traps in 7-12 feet of water and started fishing. My wife soon caught a nice 10" white perch. A little while later I checked the crab traps and pulled up 3 keepers in my 9 traps.

The rest of the fishing was pretty uneventful, I managed to catch a tiny 3 inch Perch and that was it for the fish. We checked the traps about six or seven more times catching one or two keepers each time and finishing up with 13 total crabs. The crabs were completely mixed in size and quality. Size ranged from 5 to 6.5 inches with some nice heavy crabs and some on the lighter side. Steamed corn and crabs for dinner tonight!

Here are some pics from our trip:

Congrats on getting enough crabs for dinner. How was the water quality and color?

I thought it was as clear as I've seen it. I could see my crab trap when pulling it up about 3-4 feet down.

neither, I use white perch... IMHO best thing to use for crab bait.

Also of note, there was one other person crabbing out there near us in a boat using a trotline. It looked like they had clam bags on the trot line and they were dipping a lot of crabs.

Good job Ryan on the crabs. If enough of us get skilled at catching crabs, then we can catch enough for a crab feast as was mentioned on an earlier thread.

It was a beautiful flat calm morning until the big boats started flying through...
