The area you show on the map is the remains of James Island. This is at the mouth of the Little Choptank River, not the Choptank. I believe that James Island is the basis for the island that plays prominently in James Michener's book "Chesapeake".Originally posted by donkey fish View Postwe where targeting rock fish at the mouth of the choptank by 3 eroding islands ( hear https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...db8d197aab6050 ).
25 years ago, I made a bunch of day trips to the Little Choptank area. I learned how to rig and run a crab trot line there and fished out of a 13' Gheenoe with a 4-hp motor.
James Island has the right habitat to be a wonderful fishery. The submerged stump fields and clean water just look like ideal habitat. I think local anglers do pretty well there -- I have never had a great day there, however. I attached a few photos from a trip I made in 2009.John Veil
