  • Severn River 6/11

Met Aesiegel and Aesiegel Jr at Jonas Green around 6:30. Grady Black was also launching at that time. I went to my regular spot and started catching breaking stripers around 10-12”. I used my 8wt fly rod and a double rig with Bruces bay anchovey and even caught a couple doubles. I stopped counting at 30 and lost at least that many. Also saw a cow nose ray amongst the breaking fish. The water was calm and fishing great!

Cool pics, I love it when the water boils like that. Bet you were praying they stayed on top till you got there

They stayed in the area for several hours. Sometimes not boiling but fished right under the surface for continued action.

Thanks for the report Harry. I plan to head out early on Tues from Jonas Green unless the rain has already started. I would like to see the fish breaking like that.

That looks like a lot of fun. I've heard that when little ones are breaking like that there are often bigger ones just below.

I planned to launch from Jonas Green early this morning. When I finished breakfast, it was raining so I changed my mind. About 9:30 the sky got lighter and the street was dry, so I loaded up and went to Jonas Green. The wind was blowing pretty strong from a downstream direction. I paddled across the river and fished a tidal pond. The bite was slow, and much of the pond was filled with vegetation, but I managed 6 perch. I paddled back across and upstream to the creek next to the Manresa assisted living facility. I trolled three rods with the waves at my back. I caught one perch trolling. That creek did not produce any fish today. It was beginning to rain and I knew I would have a one-mile paddle back to the park into 1.5-ft waves. I got wetter from the waves and spray than I did from the rain.

It was good exercise and fun to get out in less than optimal conditions – a bit of a challenge.

I did not see Harry's breaking fish this morning. Of course 1.5-ft waves tend to limit the surface visibility
