    Yeah, the chain holds the bait down, and the weight (anchor) holds the bouy in place and is important in keeping a proper tension on the line with pulling the line so tight as to make the baited trotline and chain rise above the sea floor.

      i didnt know about the chains..lol, i thought it went, buoy, to anchor, to baited line, as in a U.

        Heavier anchors might also solve the problem. I used to use like 1/4" chain. That always seemed to work. What size chain are you guys talking about?
