  • Perch on the Patuxent

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the site and I wanted to share my recent successes in my honey hole on the Pax River. I went out just this morning (7/2) for about three hours and caught about 39 perch, about half had decent size to them. My father fishes with me and he managed to catch two 13" perch, they were monsters. I also caught two or three croaker in the same place that I caught a little puppy drum. I almost exclusively use Mepps spinners, and I tend to lean toward chartreuse blades. This report is about par with every time I manage to get on the water.

Great job and welcome to the site. I am also a big fan of Mepps spinners and use them for just about every freshwater species.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like some nice perchin'. If you don't mind my asking, were you on the upper part or lower part of the Patuxent? Sound like I'll have to dig out my spinners. What size were you using?

I was fishing in the Broomes Island area with anything from #2's to #4's.

Cool, thanks. I don't know that section of the Patuxent very well. I usually fish upstream of Benedict or downstream of Clark's Landing and Solomons.

            TalonAngler,

Do you live in the area close to Broomes Island? I love that area and its not too long a drive from my home in Chesapeake Beach. Is your launch there public?

I don't live especially far away (Prince Frederick), I launch from Jefferson Patterson Park. There is a fee for the launch though, which is $4.
