I met SurfDog(John), Shield (Don) and Russ498 (Russ) at Jonas Green at 5:00am. John had a pass to get us onto the Navy Base where we can launch from a ramp near the mouth of the Severn River. We followed John onto the base and launched from the ramp. I immediately, went to the left into the cove and fished the shoreline with my beetle spin in chartreuse color. I hooked up with several large perch in no time. There seem to be a lot of 10.5 to 12.5 inch perch this year. I got them in 3 to 5 feet of water. This was the start of a good morning of fishing for me. After catching perch after perch, I headed over to join SurfDog on the other side of the cove by the rock piles. Once again I caught more large perch. I drift around the point of the radar towers and finally caught my first rockfish. I caught him on a 1/4 ounce redhead jig with a white 3.5 inch Gulp swimming mullet. I had put away my beetle spin and started to jig with the Gulp setup and caught a few tiny croakers, perch and two more rockfish, with the largest being 14 inches. By 10am we were back at the launch just before it started to get warm. The air temperatures are predicted to hit 100 degrees today. I kept only 7 large perch to take home. I must have caught another 35 perch at least.

Looks like you got some nice perch. Is that the place past the Academy Golf Course? For yak launching there's a small sandy area under some trees. Lots of marked fish just off of piers. I'll have to go there again. I went out past White Hall Bay to troll the deep bay channel a while back. Or did you guys launch off the Academy sailboat service area? From there I trolled beyond the radio towers too, and went down as far as Thomas Point. Again, a while back.Last edited by tufnik; 07-04-2012, 10:23 PM.2015 Hobie Outback (yellow)
