  • July Meet & Greet at Mattawoman Creek 07-12-12

Well the alarm clock went off at 4am this morning. I was to met Rob at 5am and we were headed to Mattawoman Creek for the July Meet & Greet with the Maryland Kayak Fishing guys. I woke to the sound of much needed rain outside. Got my shower and headed out to the shed to hook up to my trailer with my kayak on it. I backed a little closer to the shed to keep from getting to wet. As I rolled the trailer out of the shed it quickly rolled down the 4" ramp and caught my hand between the tongue and the bumper on my car.

I said a lot of really choice words and did a funky dance in my shed. Good thing it was early and no one was awake to hear me. I thought about canceling with Rob but decided not to. I wrapped it up and headed to our meeting spot. We headed east on I-70 to southern Maryland. We arived at Slavin's Boat launch around 8:30 am due to slow traffic around DC  we paddled down the river due to the tide going out. I saw lots of fish on the finder but could not make them bite. Rob and I met up with John at MD Kayak fishing on the water back in a side cove. Rob hooked up first with this 27" snakehead caught on a Yum Houdini Shad in Arkansas Shiner color.

I tied on a shad in watermelon Red flake and started to catch the bass.

The largest of the day at 18 1/4 "

It was a good morning, we decide not to stay for lunch as my finger was starting to throb. We packed up around noon and headed out and I made a trip to the ER to get patched.

Thanks for putting up the excellent photos. I knew you and Rob were banging the fish pretty hard but did not get to see most of them.

We could have sewn up your hand with Powerpro on the water -- then you could have kept fishing.

Ooof, sorry about the finger. Catching nice bass like that must've dulled the pain a bit, though.

I was using my bait casting rod and it was hard on my hand setting the hook. I switch over to my spinning rod that I could hold in my right hand and that was better. When we started to paddle in it was hard to grip the paddle. Good thing the tide was comming back in and we didnt have to paddle very hard. I cant wait to get back down there, got to catch a snake head !!

Yikes, I didn't think about paddling or setting the hook with a baitcaster.

Good lord man, learn how to set the date on the camera or turn tha date stamp off, will ya? Or just give it to me and let me and let me do it.

Thanks for helping with the hitch. I would have never got those muffler brackets off without having you around. Oh, and yes, my forhead does still hurt a bit. LOL

Yes, I got a small knot. She of course, can see it (roll eyes) but is getting used to it. She just left with the two kids and two bikes on the new hitch and rack. Once she has used it a few times it will be something she'll never live without.

Funny story, the Engineering student over inflated his tire and blew out the side of the tire. LOL He might be book smart, but still needs some more practical knowledge.

After fishing near Rob and Greg all morning on Sat, I can tell they are good buddies. They were busting each other's balls about one thing or another all morning long.

John, you should have been over at my house yesterday, Rob brought his wife's mini van over to get me help him to install a trailer hitch. She doesn't trust him with mechanical work. I can see why, he was using a pry bar to pop the rubber hangers from the muffler and tail pipe so we could lower it to work on the rear. Wait for it ..... the bar slips and he hits himself in the head and it sounded like a hammer hitting a coconut !!! I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face. Heck I got them now just thinking about it. It's never a dull moment with Rob !!!
