  • Potomac smallmouth - slow bite today

Last weekend my friend Todd, a bass fisherman, came with me to the lower Eastern Shore to fish in the salt water. Today, he invited me to meet him at Edwards Ferry on the Potomac in Montgomery County. Todd lives nearby and was able to get on the water early. He had already caught several smallies when I arrived at 7:30. We threw various soft plastics (Senkos, worms, crawfish) but the bite was slow. I fished for about 4 hours and had only 3 bites, one of which was a smallie of about 10" (on a Texas-rigged crawfish). Todd caught a few more during the morning, but the bite definitely slowed down about the time I arrived.

The water was not as clear as my other time there two years ago. That may have affected the bite. It was a long way to drive for just one little fish.

That section has been hit or miss for me. During the day there is a deeper hole about 1/4 mile south of the launch md side with some points that are produce well with tubes. The river smallies can be a bit temperamental though.

You guys still need to make it out to river bend

Greg and I may come down and visit you, if you'll be our first time guide.
