  • Patuxent Surprise

My dad and I went out to our usual honey hole and found this little surprise! Unfortunately it seemed to be a loner and no more were caught.

        Full of surprises...

Very cool! I had gotten out near the Lower Marlboro fishing pier to stretch my legs and ended up with a surprise of my own. I can't recall ever catching anything but catfish and perch in this section of the river, but I guess the salinity is high enough to allow for specks and the baby reds to venture up. This too was an isolated incident, and I didn't catch another.

We catch a lot of little puppy drum and schoolie rocks on top of the usual haul of perch, but every now and then we'll hook into something cool.

we caught a bunch of small stuff at Clark's Landing about a week ago before the threat of storms put us on land- I had a 13 inch flounder on a jighead with white glup curly tails- Bill and Kevin had perch and rat reds-we were hoping for specks- but didn't really get much fishing in before the weather came-

Congrats on the speck. I'm jealous. I've heard several reports of keeper specks being caught in the Pax, but I can't seem to find any for myself.
