I met John (SurfDog) and MIke (Grady Black) at the Wawa on Route 50 at 4:30am. We headed across the Bay Bridge to Bellevue. I can tell that the sun is rising later now. It was still dark when I launched from the Bellevue boat ramp at 5:45am. I fished a lighted area near the boat ramp with a 1/4 ounce jig head and Gulp swimming mullet. I got plenty of nibbles but no takers. I switched over to my modified beetle spin and then I caught a small 12 striper. I moved up the river to a creek and fished the point with the beetle spin. I caught more perch, butt they were small for my liking. except for one that I kept at 11 inches. I continued to fish grassy shorelines and landed more perch. They seemed to like when you cast right up to the edge of the shoreline, and then retrieve the beetle spin back while occasionally jerking it. I fished several more shorelines with rocks and grass, and continued to catch more perch, 50 perch in all and one more 12 inch striper. I did not see any specks of puppy drums. I eventually fished a pier where I caught three perch 11.5 inches, 12 inches and 12.5 inches. At that point I headed back in with SurfDog and Grady.... now to get some breakfast.
