Met Sun and Chexone out on the water at the bay bridge from G dock this morning in pretty heavy seas. I started off catching some spot at the close end of the bridge and then ran them out to deeper water. In my opinion the spot were a little on the large side for lling but i gave it ago anyway. I had one good runoff that lasted for about 4 seconds, but didn't come tight and a couple of other small grabs. I didnt really feel like messing with jigging for Striper after getting the word from Chex and Sun that the bite was not there, so we went for shallower water to try for Perch. I think we all caught a few here and there and some small Stripers. However, this was my best fish of the day:

This is my biggest yet, I think I will take the pic to Clyde's tomorrow for a legit attempt at a C&R citation.

Later we went for even shallower water in search of Perch and saw a brief bird show on the way in. Sun was able to nab a decent snapper blue from the brief melee. I found some nice perch and quickly caught about a dozen up to 12". We were back at the dock around 10, I called it a day, but Chex and Sun headed to Bellvue. Out of the three of us, I think we did pretty well covering five species.

Great fun to fish with you guys.

A word to all who are in next week's CBKA tournament: keep on eye on Shady and Sun... they've got some secret weapons... Shady was slaying the perch today... big ones too. And Sun is a professional bird chaser.

You're going to have to show me how to Perch fish, Ryan. Although I've caught yellow perch as an incidental, I've never really targeted and caught big perch.

White Perch and Yellow perch are similar but different. I can only catch Yellow Perch consistently when they spawn in late winter. White perch, I can catch from early sping to late summer. I have the most luck in shallow structure close to deep water using small gulp alive minnows. For some reason most spots seem to hold only big ones and others only small ones, if you catch a small one move to another spot.

I know that a lot of people have good luck jigging metal over deep oyster reefs or other deep structure, but I've never tried this method.

I catch 20-30 perch minimum each trip I take to the bridge and have caught several bigger ones at 13" or more this summer...I have tried many options but by far and away the most effective is a 2" pumpkin seed (and yes, they seem to very much prefer that color) grub from bass pro on a 1/16 oz simple lead jig head. dink stripers also feast on em which can get bothersome but the perch love it as well.

lol! professional bird chaser....I can't do it for too long. I tire out after chasing after them a couple times.

Ditto on the choppy water...when I was paddling out there in the dark, I was telling myself "you're out of your mind". If chexone wasn't with me, I think that I would have turned around.

It was fun fishing with you guys again.

I caught a few perch, the biggest was 10 or 11". 1 spot that I was going to live-line, but I changed my mind. 1 bluefish in the middle of those birds. Several rockfish - The biggest was around 15".

I used to think pumpkinseed was a useless color until this year. I got a pint of gulp of alive 2 inch minnows for a discount from outlet bait and tackle and they do work really well.
