  • Triadelphia Reservoir - 9/7/12 Bottom Bouncer Striper

I went to Triadelphia this evening and used the bottom bouncer and worm harness exclusively. I used some Gulp worms instead of night crawlers. I caught 3 white perch and a striper that was almost 13 inches!

The first white perch was 10 inches and was the biggest one I've caught there so far.

The striper was pretty neat. It fought pretty well and then when it saw the kayak, it made a nice little run to try and get away. Water was 83-85 degrees and fish were all deep around 20-25 feet of water.

Nice work. That striper seems really fat for its length. Most of the 12" to 15" stripers I catch in the bay are more slender than that one.

I wonder if the fresh water environment causes them to grow differently? Or perhaps it is a hybrid (wiper)?

MD does not stock hybrid stripers. So that's a pure striper and a very fat striper I might add. Triadelphia has a robust population of gizzard shad. So I'm guessing the stripers are eating the young gizzards.

Earlier this year, I caught a baby striper about that size in Rocky Gorge on a firetiger deep diving rapala. It's great to see they are doing well and naturally reproducing. I have seen a school of larger ones swimming around in one of the coves as well.

I guess its possible for stripers to reproduce in this lake. However, Maryland DNR does from time to time stock striper fingerlings in this lake to help control the gizzard shad populations as well as to provide a good fishery.

Triadelphia is about 10 feet low right now. I'm not sure how it is at Rocky Gorge.

I went to Rocky Gorge on sunday night for about 1 hour and trolled my deep diving husky jerk between Scott's Cove and the stumps... skunked

The res looked about 10-15 ft low. The big stump flats area is totally exposed.
