  • South River Report

I went out fishing for a few hours this afternoon. Not much to report about, a dozen undersize rock and probably 8 or so small bluefish. I marked lots of bait and fish, but nothing of any size. I had many more strikes that did not hook-up, probably more small fish. Maybe tomorrow or Friday I'll take bucket of minnows out and try for some puppy drum. Day after a front went through and rising barometric pressure, might not have helped. All in all it was a nice day on the water. Nothing was picture worthy.

I've been waiting for a South River report. Hopefully, it won't take too long to figure out where the bigger fish are. I still haven't figured it out here.

nice don ,havent seen a report from you in a while, i caught a flounder, drum, bluefish, and rockfish yesterday in the south river on spot and soft crabs, some of the rock were almost keepers, idk if you saw my flounder report or not but its on tidalfish, i caught that 18.5 inch one at thomas point, use those minnows near the state park and im sure you can get drum and flounder.use soft crabs for the rockfish though they work soo well

Next time I am going to use minnows. That may also help in keeping the small fish from eating up the bait. I was trolling on Wednesday. I was also thinking of chumming. Looks like the wind may be too much for the next couple of days, south wind. I might try some crabbing near the marina. Hey, I did see your flounder report. From the photo, that is right in the area where we would find them years ago, when flounder would show up at Thomas Point. We would drift minnows on the Fishing Creek side of the point. That was a nice catch.
