  • St. Jerome's - 9/22/12

I hit St. Jerome's today around 8am. It was windy early on, but not too bad in the creek. Then it calmed down and it was really nice.

I was looking for specs, but didn't get any. I almost got a small one by the launch but lost it at the boat. Also almost got a big FAT red, but lost him at the boat. It was my first cast with a redfish magic. Didn't get another hit on that lure all day.

I trolled and casted for 5 hours around the inlet with no luck. small xraps, chartreuse gulp mullets, comeOnFish's 4" glitter BA with green tail and wide-gap jig w/ spinner... didn't get anything, except that almost big red on the magic.

Then I went for perch and found some big ones right by the launch (5 @ 11"-12"), as well as 4 or 5 reds under 13" on chartreuse gulp mullets.

    Sorry, no pics today.

Dont give up on the redfish magic. I use gulp on it instead of the paddle tail it comes with down in sc and it can be deadly on reds (and flounder)

i use the spinners from them on a 3/4 ounce green spro bucktail and a gotcha twister tail and its absolutly deadly on stripers. its basically a giant beatle spin

also ive never fished st jeromes but in nc i use a .5 ounce jighead under 3 feet of flouro an then a bobber, no popping cork just a bobboer and put on a gulp shrimp. its the best thing ever for specks. it works from boat pier or surf and it out fishes every other lures i have ever used for specks, just pop it every 4 seconds and when the bobber goes down count to 3 and then reel him in. i tried it in the south river for reds and it worked great on the bigger reds around 16-17 inches

Thanks for the report! You can always count on Perch to finish up a tough day on a good note

I caught some decent Stripers on the redfish magic a couple years ago at HRBT.

Sorry to hear about the slow speck and red action, Mike. I think last week was hot, so I'm hoping next week will be. However, the nice perch are great news. St. Jerome's used to have lots of big perch in that cove with the launch at the end of Fresh Pond Neck Road when I first started fishing there. I could always count on bringing home dinner even if it wasn't stripers or blues, but I haven't caught many decent perch over the last few years.
