  • Rocky Gorge Bass -

Both photos are the same fish. Caught in 20 feet of water on a deep diving crankbait.

    Nice bass!

I was there a opulent weeks ago, but since I didn't have a permit I didn't launch and did some shore fishing (caught nothing). I noticed the water level was very low. Is that hurting or helping the fishing there?

The bass fishing at Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge is always bad for me! I'm happy if I catch one bass on a trip. If I catch 2 bass, then it was a great outing for me. The only time I've done well is in the Spring. I'm still catching fish in a Summer-time pattern. The bass I've caught have been 20-25 feet deep. Both reservoirs have an over-abundance of small white perch. I've been catching white perch all year long on a bottom bouncer and worm harness as well as on a firetiger floating rapala minnow trolled along. The low water doesn't seem to be hurting the fishing from what I can tell.

Nice catch! Those bright fluorescent colored lures show up great in deep water which is why they seem to work so well at Rocky and Triadelphia.

Congrats on the catch! The first picture has the sun shining through the trees I know you need a permit to launch, but do you need a permit to do shore fishing at Rocky Gorge and Triadelphia?

You technically need a permit to fish from shore, but I know for a fact most people who don't have a permit fish from shore there. The coves next to Scott's Cove are the best for shore fishing.

Also the Gorge is best in the colder parts of the year. It's probably because during the warmer months there are huge schools of shad as well as tons of baby bluegill fry swimming around. With the abundance of food, our crankbaits/jigs/plastics aren't going to be as appealing. Not to mention the fish will probably only binge at sun up and sundown.

Nice billy! I have had a tough time catching bass in either triadelphia or rocky gorge.

I fish the gorge often all year around, fishing is best in spring. When the water level is low like it is now its a good time to scout for cover , stumps, etc . I sometimes live line with bluegill with good results, went out this evening caught two bass top water one 15 one 11 .

Has anyone successfully kayaked from Scott's Cove up to Brown's Bridge? It took me a while just to troll past the 29 bridge.

Nope, not me. Last Sunday I paddled from Scotts Cove to the 29 bridge and turned around. It was a fair amount of effort to get there and back. I bet the pedal powered Hobie guys could do it without any trouble. If I ever decide to spend a full day at Rocky Gorge I might try to paddle up past the 29 bridge a ways and see what's going on up there. I was surprised how many jon boats I saw on Sunday up in that area.

I've gone down to the dam area from Scott's cove near the buoys. Took about the same time as it took to get to the 29 bridge. I was just wondering how the fishing was in the area between 29 and Brown's.

Last spring I launched from Browns Bridge a few times and basically got skunked. My son had a BIG bass on a crankbait while trolling, but the bass came unhooked before it could be landed. I went back last fall and caught a couple of white perch and that was it.

This spring I launched from Browns Bridge a few times and got skunked once and caught a few white perch. I know a couple of guys from another fishing forum were hitting the top end this spring and did very well up there. I don't think they made it down as far as the 29 bridge in their trips.

There has got to be less fishing pressure up that way, expecially with the Browns Bridge ramp closed lately.

My best fishing has been between the 29 bridge and Scott's Cove. There seems to be the most baitfish activity in the area as well.

No never tried don't think I would make it. I have a prowler big game it's stable, but slow I did 29 bridge before it was a four hour trip.
