  • Carrs Wharf 9/25

I launched from Carrs Wharf on the Rhode river today at 6:00 am and fished until 10:30 targeting stripers. All I could manage was 3 dink stripers and 2 plump white perch.

I knew it was going to be very windy and I would have to paddle up the river so I didn't have high expectations but I was still a little disappointed in the catch. Looking on the bright side, it was my second yak fishing trip and the 14" striper is my biggest yak fish yet

Nice. Just wait till you catch a big one. First time I caught a keeper rock (not too long ago), I was freaking out. Great fun and excitement. (i still freak out when i catch one)

That launch is at the end of Carrs Wharf Rd? Is it free?

Yes Carrs Wharf is free. I'm still setting up my yak and it will be "interesting" when I catch a big fish. I generally fish the Patapsco and North (in a tin can) and we have some gnarly cats up here. Hooking one of those on a yak would be quite a ride!

I've been looking to put in there at Carr's Wharf during the week at some point. Were you using live or fresh bait, or lures? Bottom fishing, jigging? Thanks

I always use lures. Today I tried Chug Bug with Trailer, Rat-l-Trap, Silver Buddy and some soft plastics. Stripers were on the topwater and plastics, Perch hit the Rattle. Nothing on the buddy but it was slack tide when I was throwing that.

I want to try it again on a calmer day when I can get to the islands. If you want company some weekday PM me, I fish mornings during the week. I'm hoping to find some of those keeper rock that seem to be so prevalent on the South river.

Carr's Wharf parking lot (if you can call it that) is tiny. Best to go on a weekday. The one time I launched from there I brought all my gear except my fishing rods...d'oh! The area really is beautiful, so it was a nice paddle at least.
