Had a couple of hours to kill this afternoon so I decided it was a nice enough day to hit the Mattawoman. Got to the launch around 11am and the water was extremely low. I quick checked my tide app and it said high tide would be on its way so I hoped for the best. I launched and went to the right this time (I always go to the left) and fished the weed line the entire way to the pilings. Not a single bite. Once I got to the pilings I changed up my approach and put on a FishBelly Hawg Shad (from the CBKA Captains bag) on a small jig spinner thinking I could catch some small bass. My first cast by the pilings and I felt something nail the jig and I set the hook, my drag started screaming off my reel (I'm using an ultra light rod with 5lb mono). I saw a silver flash below the surface but couldn't tell what it was at first (i was hoping a tidal rockfish). After a five minute fight and getting dragged around a little I pulled up this nice channel cat (i think its a channel)
That was all for the day, I fished the incoming tide all the way back to the landing and didn't get one hit. I ran into another fellow yaker and he said he had caught some Catfish, a couple bass and one SH, other than that it was not very productive.
