Fished Jonas Green on Saturday with my dad. My dad got there before me because traffic was terrible on Governor Ritchie Highway.
We got on the water around 2 pm and paddled up to the mouth of Weems. The wind was blowing against us and the incoming tide. When we arrived at the mouth we started marking fish at various depths but mainly towards the bottom. My dad was using his secret bait and I was using some gulp. Both of us were getting our baits chewed up so we suspected a school of blues and sure enough my dad hooked into a decent size one. I couldn't seem to hook anything at Weems. I spent about 15 min looking for perch in my usual spots but they seem to have gone to deeper depths. We trolled back to the bridge and we got into a school of small stripers. We caught a handful a piece and called it a day.
It was a beautiful day despite the wind.
On Sunday I got a late start and didn't have a real plan except that I wanted to scout out a new place to go. I spun the wheel and it landed on Chesapeake Beach. I arrived after 2 pm and paddled under the small bridge and out to the rock jetties. The wind was blowing but not as bad as Saturday. I first tried the south rock jetty with no hits so I moved to the north jetty and immediately started get hits. I was using 3in gulp on my light rod. I started hooking into small stripers. After about a dozen I caught two bigger ones back to back. I was hoping they would keep getting bigger but they didn't.
By this time I saw a group of three kayakers heading my way. It turned out to be Fishtank and his wife and Jim. We talked for a bit. Good people. They had just returned from Holland Point and said that the fishing was good up there. We continued to fish. Fishtank got a nice size puppy drum, a small flounder and a bunch of other fish. His wife said she caught a nice size spot on the inside of the north jetty. I caught a couple puppy drum and some more small striper. As Fishtank was getting ready to leave I hooked into what I thought was another small striper. When I got it into the boat I was surprised with my first ever Speck! Very pretty fish. I fished until almost dark with just a few more small stripers.
All small but still a good day. It was nice meeting new people with the same addiction. I hope to fish with you guys again.
