  • Awesome day on the Honga

Fished some grass beds on the Honga River yesterday, and had an awesome day. Landed 10 and kept 4. Biggest was 24", second biggest 22". Great time of the year to fish.

Wow Great job. Honga Islands are my favorite place to fish. If you fished the lower Island IM me.

I didn't realize specks turned into footballs like stripers. Sounds like an excellent day.

You did great. I am trying to learn how to be a better trout catcher and locater. I assume the you were jigging, not trolling? Were the fish caught near to shore? And as Mighty said, where is the best place to launch a kayak at the Honga to fish for trout?

Yes, jigging. Fished some grass beds that were about 30 yards or so off of the shore. Was in about 3-4 ft of water. You can launch at Hoopersville. All the way at the end of Hoopers Island.
