  • Scouting the 301 Bridge

I decided at the last minute to ride down to the 301 bridge this afternoon I left the yak at the house and decided if all was good at the river I would go back and load up the Hobie. I wanted to check the after effects of the storm surge and as predicted, the amount of floating debis coming down stream.
It was the beginning of incoming and there was a a small of amount of wood floating along. I decided to throw out a rod with salted spot.
There was a boat launching while I was there and they rode straight to the warm water discharge at the plant. I watch them as they pulled in several rockfish. From what I could see they were small rocks, but they seemed to be biting pretty good. I caught a nice blue cat before I left.
It was a beautiful day until the tide started coming in and the wind picked up and I was outta there by 230pm.

Bill and I have fished the Harry Nice bridge before- I usually end up with several stripers close to legal size, bluefish and like you- some big blue cats- I caught some nice keeper speckled trout inside the Aqualand marina up in the creek tossing small chartreuse 3 inch gulps on 1/8 oz jigheads- the redfish magic spinnerbaits worked on small redfish, but no keepers- I am looking forward to getting back in Maryland after a month on the road- I fly home November 6th- plan to catch some keeper rock ASAP-

I also threw a 4 inch Gulp grub along the marina inlet and the back boat slips .It really looked fishy back there. I will be going back there this coming week. I live nearby so it is very convenient. Hope to see you out there.

Yes- the Harry Nice 301 Bridge about 8 miles south of LaPlata- The PEPCO generating plant has a warm water discharge to the left of the bridge about 200 yards of so looking at Virgina-
