  • First Tidal Rockfish - Much Thanks to HJS

This is my first tidal rockfish. It was caught in the Baltimore Harbor, right near where the cruise ships launch from and not too far from Ft. McHenry.

I was trolling a rapala deep diving crank bait. It was balsa wood with a big bill and it was perch colored. I was trolling a channel and I'm guessing the lure was about 12-14 feet down.

The fish was about 16 inches long.

Hey Ron, how was the wind down there today? I opted for the Bay Bridge and got blown out. Tried Weems creek but still had no luck.

Nice job on the Rockfish guys.

It was very fishable- winds were blowing pretty strong but the direction was great- off the beach so fishing around the bridge (marked a lot of fish) was easy- no problem at all- tides were all screwed up so I was lucky fishing the low tide to get hits and catch fish-

Nice looking fish. If you hadnt said it was 16, I would have thought for sure it was a keeper.

Mine was so fat and healthy that I put it on the stringer w/o measuring- it obviously was a keeper- later i measured and it was an half inch too small and I released it- frisky and full of life-
