I think Martin and a few others may have caught all the pickerel in Weems Creek recently and told them not to bite my lures. 
I have done pretty well in Weems over the past month, but today was not a good bite at all. I launched at Tucker St at 12:45 to a brisk breeze. The air temp and the water temp were both in the mid to upper 40s. The combination of the breeze, low water level, and too many floating leaves at several of my preferred spots made it tough to fish. I tried spot after spot without even a nibble. After about 2 hours I had a bite. The fish pulled back for 2-3 seconds, then let go of the lure. I continued working all my usual spots in Weems without success. Finally at the 2.5-hour mark, when I was most of the way back to the ramp, I cast to a shallow area between two docks and hooked a 17" pickerel. That was it for the day.
I did enjoy my first outing after installing a Lowrance LMS 527 color FF/GPS unit that I moved from my power boat to the new kayak. I had it installed two weeks ago, but discovered that my battery had given up the ghost and would no longer hold a charge. I bought a new battery last week -- this was the first chance I had to fish since then.
I mounted the unit between the footrests on a Scotty mount. It is mounted closer to my seat than the unit I had on my old kayak. It is very easy to reach forward and push the buttons. To avoid drilling any other new holes, I ran the two cables out from under the hatch cover to the screen unit through a corrugated plastic sheath.
I ran the battery leads out from under the hatch cover and attached alligator clips onto each lead. The 5 amp-hr battery sits inside a Tupperware box placed in front of the port side foot rest -- the battery leads tuck under the lid.
I mounted the transducer to the floor under the hatch cover using duct seal as many other MKF members have done. I got a good signal using that arrangement.
Although I was not fishing in deep water today, I did enjoy the bright image and detailed color sonar. I checked the GPS mapping capabilities -- they worked fine too.
