  • Tough bite at Bay Bridge

Just to confirm what others already knew or suspected, the bite at the BB is tough these days.

I launched from SPSP around 1pm and fished until around 5pm. No wind. Slick water. Little current.

I trolled and xrap and a spinnerbait to the western rockpile and started jigging around. There I saw another yaker pull up a striper. He said it was a fat 18-20 incher. He caught it by the big wall across from the rockpile. It was encouraging, but that would be his only fish today.

I tried his spot for a while without a bite. Near the rockpile, in about 30' of water, I was marking tons of fish. I jigged the fish cloud with a 6" bkd, and though I could feel some bites, I could not connect. I switched to a 4" gulp mullet and immediately caught a 10" striper. That would be my only fish of the day. I'm guessing all those fish were probably a mixture of tiny rockfish and maybe some perch.

There were a lot of boats fishing the rockpiles, but I did not see anybody catch anything. A guy back at the ramp told me he was out all day and caught nothing. Another guy caught 1 at 24" while trolling.
