  • Big "Fish"

Got into some strange fishing in the Potomac just North of the 495 bridge, fishing the wastewater outflow on Friday evening. Caught a 20" largemouth, 4 or 5 huge slimy shad, and the ridiculous carp pictured below (30-40 lbs). Lost 2 other equally large or bigger carp. Kinda strange that they were hitting lures...twas a hell of a fight, I will probably smell of carp and shad for weeks...

Both. catfish are always a pain, and carp are just in their own league of awfulness. Got tail-slapped in the face during the photo sesh, which was lovely.

Quickdrive, that is a good question...where did you launch from? I used to fish that area in my bass boat, but would launch from either the airport or Belle Haven Marina...both of those are a hell of a treck to the discharge...if you did either of those you are tough as nails.

I've picked a few up jigging spoons and sonars in deep water during the winter as well, hellava fight especially on light tackle! Alot of people may not like them but I'll take a good day of carp fishing any day of the week Sweet fish!

you look a little grossed out by the carp on the last picture. They are ugly as ugly can be. Big billy bass there. Thanks for sharing this.

I'd take that trip any day. Those carp look like tanks.

Nice I'd say that carp takes the record on the leaderboard. what is your best estimate for it's length?

That is one big carp. How long did it take to get him in? I hooked one and it took me 1/2 hr to get him in (8lb mono).

That's quite a variety of fish you caught, in the winter no less, congrats! I'm interested in locating where this wastewater discharge is on the Potomac (only one I know about is in Dickerson, MD.) I'm familiar with the general area but not familiar where the discharge is on the river. Is it a warm water discharge?

I tried locating the discharge on Google Maps but didn't get back anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to google maps and type in
                              38.814098, -77.027678

That's where it is...pretty evident when you get there
