  • Patuxent River: 3/11/13

I wanted to try an area different than Waysons. Should've went to Waysons! lol. I fished for a couple of hours using live minnows. Skunked. There were 4 other boats fishing within my view. I saw one hookup that came unbuttoned. Still a fun day on the water nonetheless.

Toward the end, you sure walk fast...lol..

Anyway, nice job on the video (suggestion: you should add music credits). As I recall, I think you use a Contour, not Go Pro. Seems like a good camera. Thanks for the report.

Thanks Tufnik. I showed the music credits as the song began.

One of these days I'll have footage of some fish being caught lol

Oops....sorry....it went by so quickly I thought it was your "fishing thoughts" as you sat there contemplating the water, the sky, the serenity, the fishes...

Good clear video. I noticed that your music covered the explitive when you hooked the tree. Which Pax Park ramp did you launch at?

Anyone fishing up by the fork in the river past the piling?

Nice vid, how deep is the water there? I had more luck catching YP last time out on minnow and bobber. May be worth a try next time out.

Capt C-Hawk, I launched at Jackson Landing.

Quikdrive, Nobody was there at "the hole". I spent 25 minutes there with not a bite!

Ryan, I was working the shoreline....I didn't drift into the channel, so it was shallow. I thought about switching to a float setup, but I never did.

I fish there quite often -- its the closest water to my house. I just got my kayak a couple weeks ago and haven't been out yet. I was thinking about going there because the ramp seems close and accessible, and there is a tide but no waves. Do you think that would be a good place for a maiden voyage?

From the fishing pier attached to the boat launch, the water is about 20 - 30 feet in the channel. I hear rumors of a deep hole somewhere off there, but I'm not sure. Its a catfish/ carp town. There is a picture of me on the pier and surf page with a big carp a brought in with an ultra-lite and 6 lb test last summer. I have caught tons of cat, a few carp, and some small stripers there. You can also get a bit of anything along the rice patty on the opposite side of the channel, but I can quite cast that far, but will be able to get it in my yak. Maybe i'll see you there.

                      Tango,
Jug Bay is a nice area to kayak fish, it should be fine as your first outing. The launch is really simple since there is a ramp and a kayak ramp. Just check the winds before you go out! Although the water stays relatively calm going against the wind AND the current can tire you out quick! Metroman and I rented a canoe from there and we would just run up on the marsh and get stuck and then fish!! Mostly because of the instability of the canoe, but you can do it too if the drift is too fast or you wanna take a quick break on the water!

Yeah, the current can rip pretty good thru there at max flow. I'd just be mindful of that for a maiden voyage. Also be as courteous as you can to the pier anglers when your going to/coming from upstream. Otherwise, its a great place for a beginner.

I made my maiden voyage there a few years back, believe what you read about the current. I paddled my barge into the current till I was tired out and let it push me back to the launch. The truly deep hole is up around the bend.
