  • Early Morning Potomac Pullage- 3/22/13

I met up with Matt & Shane this morning at Ft. Washington Marina to go after blue catfish. (I actually ended up passing them on the beltway...well coordinated timing lol). We launched from the marina, which is located on piscataway creek, and we headed out to the main channel of the Potomac. We fished both in the channel, and along the ledges of the channel. The best depth for us this morning was 32'-40'. I used 8oz, Matt used 5. Constant pullage all morning for the most part. The size of the cats ranged from mid teens to mid 20 in range. My best of the day was just shy of 24". We used cut bait. I had cut mackerel, which the cats loved. I also had cut mullet with me, but I never got around to using that.

It was pretty damn cold out there this morning. Temps were in the low 30s. Brrr. Here are some pics. I had my camera set up on auto capture, so it took a pic every 3 seconds. Now I have thousands of pics...just what I wanted lol...

You guys are hard core. I'm sitting on my ass watching TV because it's too damn cold and windy to even think about going trout fishing on the Patuxent, let alone out on the open water!

MEtroman, you left at the perfect time. After you left Shane and I only caught 1 more each. At least they were decent size, Shane got a 27" blue cat and I got a 22" channel. I ended up with 4 total.

Great friday fish! With all those pics, it's like I was almost there. Thanks for the report and way to get out there in the cold.

Always good to get out to a new spot and catch a new species. Seems like right as Metro left the bite shut down! Biggest of the day and ever for me was this fat 27'' blue cat. Thought it was bigger at first until I realized the hog trough wasn't fully extended; I need one of the 30'' ones that doesn't extend. Caught 7 total all over 20''. Good pullage!

I always have an apprehensive feeling when I try a new fishing spot.

Same here; this morning was no different but you got the skunk off the trip as soon as your bait hit the bottom!

Good job guys, echo5oscar and I are hitting the Wildson Bridge in the morning in hopes of catching some more of those Blue cats.

Did you all use cut bait or was there some jigging involved?

Nice work guys. The wind has been whistling around the windows at my house most of the day making me happy to stay indoors. I'm glad you were able to catch some good catfish.
