  • Tuckahoe Creek 3/23

I took a friend fishing today on the Tuckahoe Creek in Hillsboro. When I went last March around this time, it was a bit warmer, and the fish were very active - you could see them swimming in the water. I hoped that it would be similar today, but it was windy and we didn't get much love from the fish. We fished from around 12 to 3 with just one 9.5 incher to show for it. Tuckahoe is a nice serene place - I'd recommend trying it in maybe 2 - 3 weeks when the weather gets warmer.

Here's a pic of the boat ramp:

    Water clarity was good today:

Do you need a tidal or non tidal license there?

Next time give the lake a try. This time of year the crappie should be active. I used to fish the lake quite often. During the summer it is fun to follow the old river bed back into the vegitation. It is fun to bass fish back in that area.

I believe a tidal license is required there, Mustafa.

I was at the next launch south of you in Hillboro Sun. We fished from shore and caught small white perch, many small yellow perch and several 10 inch catfish. We were just looking for future launch areas on the eastern shore to explore when the weather really warms up and the fishing every where turns on.

It does look like a nice serene place. Too bad you didn't get more fish, but at least you didn't get the skunk like me. What was it that you caught? A YP?

I am not sure what Sun was using, but we had minnows and nightcrawlers, and salted bloodworms. The only producers were the nightcrawlers. They landed all of the fish that I reported that we caught.

According to the fishing handbook, it is tidal up to the old stone RR Bridge, upstream of Rt. 404.

I caught a yp on a minnow in about 3 ft of water.
