Quick report from the tidal Potomac River.
Water temperatures ranged from a low of 43 degrees to a high of 48 degrees. Some of the extreme shallow backwaters actually read 50 degrees late in the afternoon. Water clarity, a white spinnerbait completely disappeared 16 inches down.
I could not get any bass to chase anything yet. Nothing on lipless or lipped crankbaits or spinnerbaits. What was working was a football jig scuttled along the bottom making contact with rocks and wood. That seemed to get them hunting.
Early in the day they were just on the lip of the creek channels in 5-6 feet of water. By mid-afternoon they were over the lip in 3-4 feet of water. Still the bite pretty much died off after 4:00 P.M. but it was a nice day to be out on the water. Spring is getting here slowly but surely.
