...and then pops turtled his yak wrestling with a 36"ish fish. So the day ended early ...so 7 or 8 fish in about 2 hours.

By the way: water is apparently chilly this time of year?

              Great catch.

I fished the CCNPP rips last Sat in a friends power boat. The wind picked up and pushed us around quite a bit. I was surprised to see two anglers in small sit-inside kayaks paddle from the north and stay there several hours. They did not catch anything while we were there. Of course, the entire bite was off that day. In 4 hours of jigging, I caught one small fish, a second guy caught one small fish, and the third guy caught 4 small fish.

I'm glad you had a better day yesterday. I'm curious where you launched from and how far you had to travel to get to the rips.

JAV--Sorry about your luck last weekend; getting there with lucky timing on the bite is half the battle. Almost all boats were catching top-quality fish today. It was a shame we had to leave so early. Launched from Long Beach which is 2 miles North but all of the shoreline is private (Fortunately for me I know somebody who lives on the beach). Hardcore Public option is a boat launch on the Eastern shore 6 miles away.

Sorry about Pop's turtle. I was on the boat that hauled him back to the beach. He was in rather good spirits considering the lost gear and big fish. It all seemed to happen in slow motion and you feel so helpless. Glad he's OK, that cold water and current isn't the best place for a swim. There is a pic of him and the fish taken just before it hit the fan. I'll try to get it to you.

The bite shut down for 2 hours right after we got back, soyou didn't miss much fish catching, not that it's any consolation.

Thanks again for the assist today man--it's kinda funny, you'd never expect on a day like today that something could go wrong. But sometimes when you've got a huge fish, pure instinct wins over dryness =).

Believe me, the fact that the fishing slowed IS consolation (though sorry we pulled you from the good action). He was pretty bummed that we had to cut the trip short. I know he'd be stoked to see the pics you took.

Kiko snapped the pic, he's still enroute home. The guide on the trip was Capt Dennis Fleming, same one who fished 3 boaters out just over a year ago. I don't care what anyone says, Capt Dennis is da man. Never any question, get lines in, we're going to help. That's how things should always be, but often aren't.

The rescue assist and trip took only 20 minutes...no worries. Glad your dad is fine.

Wow, excellent fish all around. Sorry to hear about the turtle. It's good to know there are excellent folks out there willing to help a brother out.
