  • Late Report: April 26, 2013 SPSP/Bay Bridge Kayak Fishing

Launch from SPSP boat dock around 1:00pm. Arrived at bridge pilings 15 min later. Soaked bloodworms and squid on separate rods. Very windy w/strong current.
I could hardly hold bottom w/anchor. Fished many different pilings. Nothing, not even a nibble. Finally got tired of being blown every which way and gave it up -safety first.

After I get this kayak/fishing/equipment/packing/unpacking thing down, I'll throw in some pictures/videos. The view from under the bridge was spectacular.

All in all, it was an excellent outing for my first time in years. Have extra bloodworms and squid left over; plan to hit SPSP beach Friday evening for some surf fishing.
Hope to meet some of you there.

P.S. I was supposed to meet Metroman and others for the trip. However, somehow they went to PLO and I went to SPSP. Don't know how I screwed that up. MetroMan next time I won't get my wires crossed.

Right now, if I was going with my hobie to the bridge pilings. I would buy some eel gulps and jig them around the pilings for rock fish. Either eel gulps or large bass assassins. I agree that right now your success with bloodworms/squid is going to be limited. Have you ever "surf" fished off SPSP and caught anything. that seems like another day starring at your rod tip and nothing to show for time.

Great advise, and I'll invest in some eel gulps and jig heads and thanks. Secondly, yes I have had great success on the SPSP beach during croaker, spot, and blue runs almost always during the evening. Bait of choice: croaker = bloodworms/squid/shrimp; spot = bloodworms; blue = spot, bloodworms.

        Again, thanks for the advise.

Thanks for the advise, seems the theme at the bridge pilings is "jigging." \

          Again thanks for the advise.

dont use gulp eels, get some bkds in 6 inch size, look on kimbros website for help. youll need a 1 ounce jighead but a 2 ounce is easier.

no, i usually use 3/4 or 1 ounce, but jigging with a 2 ounce jighead it ALOT easier because you can feel the bottom alot better, and its easier for a beginner
