Yesterday afternoon/evening, we made plane to hit the Severn...finally. Weekend plans with spouses and weather kept getting in our way. I hit the launch (Jonas Green) and paddled out just after 5:30pm and caught the last of the outgoing tide. It was pretty much slack... Foursteps24 & Grady Black were already on the water, with a few small perch caught. (we used our paddles)
We fished using bloodworm and shrimp. I caught a few decent perch as I fished two rods. One with shrimp, the other with bloodworm. The perch didn't seem to have a preference. A short while later, I got the typical croaker SLAM. A fat 13 incher. SAMwich! In the midst of us bottom fishing, small rockfish broke the surface all around us in the sunset. I cast a lure repeatedly for a while with no luck, so I put it away and continued bottom fishing. The rockfish ketp teasing me, so finally I made a few more casts and got one. A fiesty 13 inch monster.
The highlight of the evening for me was hooking three croaker at the same time. I was reeling in one, while my other rod doubled over. The first fish sat still for a few seconds, then the rod doubled over again. I finally reeled it in with two keeper croaker.
We got off the water at 8:30. I took home 8 croaker and 4 perch. I caught a bunch of shorts as well. Not bad for "happy hour". It was a fun, relaxing evening. The beach was full of people, anglers and non anglers alike sharing the serenity of the river sunset.

I'll fillet the croakers tonight!
