    Phenomenal Day Ron!

Got a couple questions for ya for my (and perhaps others') edification: 1) What prompted you to change lures and try the variety you did? I still consider myself new to fishing and I'm curious to learn at what point you felt you should change lures. 2) About how much line did you have for the x-raps vs 1/4 jigs vs 1/8 and about how fast were you going? I've had pretty good experience with x-raps with 150 ft out and between 2.5 to 3 MPH, but I wanted to get your perspective on the others...

    Thanks Ron!

Experience mainly drove my fishing Sunday- Fishing around the bridge early on I was using 1/4 oz jigs with white 4 inch gulps and XRaps- when I left the bridge, I kept that combo going until I reached my target area- I caught several stripers in transit. Last year I had success catching lots of redfish with the lighter jig heads and chartreuse 4 inch gulp just bumping the bottom, so I slowed down to less than 2 mph- 1.7- 1.8 mph and found the depth contours with my fishfinder to get the optimal speed/length of line out to just occassional bump bottom with the jigs- that turned out to be too slow for the XRaps, so I swapped the XRap for the 5 inch salt and pepper Bass Assassin which was too big for the 1/8 oz jighead (and a dynamite speckled trout lure)- I went to 1/4 oz- headed into the current I slowed down to 1.3 mph and headed back with the current I went 1.8 mph- I was constantly reeling in pulling grass off the lures as there was a lot of loose grass- ever time I dropped a clean lure it would get an immediate hit and if the fish missed it didn't take long to become fouled with grass- you had to get the lures down and they had to be clean- otherwise it was fast and furious...oh, yeah, speed was the secret- too fast and all you caught were dink stripers, slowed down bigger stripers and other species-the fish never stopped biting- I filled up all the hooks on my stringer and was throwing them in the yak loose...figured it was time to head home-
