I headed out on the upper potomac today for the first time. Put in around 2:30 and spent the first hour figuring out what to do. I started at Edwards ferry and went upriver first thinking I would float back down. I didn't catch anything so I decided to paddle below the ramp and try there. I quickly found some good areas to fish and managed to get 6 smallies in about an hour. Lost 3 fish as well. I left in a hurry and didn't bring any terminal tackle. All I had was soft plastics and 2/0 hooks. No weights or jigheads! I managed to find a jighead kicking around in the bottom of my kayak and good thing to because I have always had the best luck catching smallies on a simple grub and jighead.
No real size to most of the fish but the one big one was probably a 14incher. I forgot how hard they fight. I got the largest one close to the kayak and it ran again and almost pulled the rod out of my hand.photo 5.jpgphoto 1.jpgphoto 2.jpgphoto 3.jpgphoto 4.jpg
