Jutland Creek July 6th

Launched early this morning in Jutland Creek- fished for five hours and brought home a bag of fish for the table- Three nice perch six big croakers and a 19 1/2 inch speckled trout- Lost a nice striper at the boat that could have been a keeper- I caught three redfish- all short- bazillion stripers up to 17 1/2 inches...tired gonna take a nap-

Very nice! Jutland Creek - hmmm... sounds like a visit may be in my future.

Great pics - great fish! Reds and specks are on my "need to catch" list. What bait or lure did you use for them?

I used a homemade redfish magic spinner with a 1/4 oz jighead and a salt and pepper bass assassin plastic body...I tried a lot of combinations before settling in on two rods trolling- the plain swimbait (jighead with gulp/Bass Assassin) without a spinner caught mostly stripers- with a spinner it caught more fish. Chrome or gold worked equally well for spinners. I used three different sizes- a three inch body, a four inch body and a five inch body- the smaller bodies were more effective- the green tails were more effective than the yellow tails bass assassins...trolling was tricky in the current, wind, weeds and jellyfish-PIA- cleaning the lures was a constant thing- reel in one clean it throw it out, reel in the other rod, repeat, repeat- all day long. Shallow water was the ticket for redfish, but weeds were thick in shallow- I found that the slower you were trolling, the better- 1.5 to 2.0 mph by the GPS...I trolled all the way to the entrance of Smith Creek and around the entrance in 4.5 feet of water for most of the day- lots and lots of stripers were popping, but underneath the stripers were croakers, redfish, perch and speckled trout-the striper were hungry and were a pest, but if you managed to avoid them, you caught a good fish for the table...I was double hooked up in the schools of fish- that was when I caught the speckled trout- after reeling in a 16 inch striper the speck was still hooked on the second rod-I did catch a big ray yesterday- in 2.5 feet of water it gave me a sleigh ride for a while stripping a lot of drag and running like a scalded dog- I saw it right away but not much I could do other than hang on- I wrapped the leader around my wooden bat I use on snakeheads and popped the swimbait off-

Nice! Safe to say the redfish are back this year? haha! Kevin and I caught a couple today on the eastern shore as well.

It is just too much trying to hold a flopping fish and focus the camera in a bright sun with Costa polarized sunglasses trying to see if you got them in the viewfinder- I am getting to the point I don't take pictures unless the fish is a different species or you are in a tournament...

St. Inigoes launch, Kevin- there were a few boats and jet skiers, but nothing like Piney Point- that place has been packed the last couple of times I was there- I am looking at Tall Timbers next-
