I started out heading upriver today based on John Veils report from earlier this week.
On my first cast, I caught a 10" rock and on the next cast, a 6" perch, and I thought that I was in for a big day.
A lesson in humility, as for the next hour I couldn't buy a hit and didn't see anything on the FF worthwhile.
So I turned around and continued fishing down river from the Ramp.
I caught a few smallish perch for the next hour or so. I ran across a fellow kayaker fishing from a yellow yak (sorry, can't remember your name) who was doing O.K. slow trolling around the mouth.
A little later, Zeebyrd stopped by on her way out to fish the drop offs.
I continued working the docks and bulkheads, picking up mostly small perch, no dinner partners.
Finally, right at the mouth of the creek, where the pinkish colored rip rap is (be careful there are sunken pilings just below the surface, I managed to catch a couple of dinner guests, one a real hawg.
But by then the boat traffic out on the main stem of the Severn and the wind conspired to kick up some good sized wakes and I got tired of getting hammered in the canoe.
Today's conditions:
A high tide a little after nine.
I am beginning to think that Weems fishes better on a falling tide. And definitely better on a weekday.
The water above the bridges was rather turbid with perhaps 6" of visibility.
Below Tucker Street it cleared considerably.
I got to see some muskrats and the creek was full of jellyfish, today.
Spinner jigs and a 3" curly tail on a 1/8 oz. jighead were the lures of choice.
