Nice video, but why not just use a little heavier jighead? Then you wouldn't have to throw like a girl.

It was his first time attempting to run a trotline for crabs, so I joined him to provide moral support lol. The crabbing was a tough time, primarily due to inadequate anchors. It's one of the most important parts of the equation, so THAT, combined with a nice breeze blowing perpendicular to the trotline made it tough for steve. But being a determined, humble individual, Steve stuck it out and ran the line as best as he could in his Hobie Revo. He caught a crab, missed a few, but spent most of the time "learning". The experience was great for him, and I'm sure he will be proficient within the next trip or two. Once I got him as squared away as I could, I left him to search for perch.
The perch bite ws good. I worked the piers with a 1" chartreuse curly tail grub on a 1/32oz jig head....tied directly to my mono leader. It was too light to cast, so I manually peeled line to adjust for depth, and jigged the piers. Non stop action! Often, I also manually peeled off line and threw (by hand) the lure near the piling I wanted to fish. It was a lot of fun fishing this way.
One thing I found interesting...often, the perch would simply "mouth" my lure. A few times, a gentle lift of the rod tip ended up with a fish fighting back. There was often no hit, just my natural motion ended up with a fish on the other end. I also did a slow troll past the pier pilings to catch fish. It was a fun time. I took home 15. Six over 10", the rest were in the 9" range.
When I got back to the beach, I could not find my keys! It turns out I left them on the picnic bench where I sat waiting for Steve. Luckily, a good samaritan turned them in to the park ranger (instead of stealing my car!). The park ranger stayed late until I came looking for them.
One thing that kinda made me mad was these guys in a jon boat. Two of them arrived at a local private dock...tied to the ladder, climbed on the dock and fished from it. A third guy walked down the beach from Jonas, and joined them on the private dock. Trespassing like that is gonna screw thing up for people fishing & crabbing around the private docks like many of us do.
I hope to post a vid of last night's trip soon.

Edit: the year was 2013, not 2030 LOL!
Thanks for the report
