  • World Record Snakehead

Right here in our area, Aquia Creek:

It’s official: Caleb Newton, a Spotsylvania County resident, plumber and die-hard fisherman, has snagged a world record.

Within a few days, the Stafford County native will be able to hang the evidence on the wall—a certificate from the International Game Fish Association, confirming he caught a 17 pound, 6 ounce monster northern snakehead in Aquia Creek on June 1.

The previous record, 17 pounds, 4 ounces, was caught in Miki Kagawa, Japan in 2004.

Great fish...but I'm willing to bet that record doesn't last too long. I see it falling several times in the years to come....

I agree. As it notes at the end of the article, bow-fisherman have taken fish 18 pounds+ but they don't qualify for the record because its hook and line only.

Do you think snakeheads are here to stay. Sounds to me like they are pretty comfortable here in DC.

I assume you're speaking about the fish and not politicians.

The answer is yes to both.

Get some tools for handling SH and you'll be fine.
