I launched out of Shymanski's Marina for $5 around 1:30pm. Of course, right after I pay the wind picks up.....oh well, let's get a paddling workout against the wind! I went around the marina, and under the bridge, casting under docks, piers, and bridge pylons. It was hot and sunny. I paddled towards the Potomac and made it as far as the jetty as whitecaps were everywhere and big swells were signaling me not to venture into the river. I caught plenty of big white perch by casting, lots of croakers using the top/bottom rig, and a bunch of just-under stripers. Then I explored a couple of back creeks...same thing. Suddenly, the sun went into hiding, and the clouds darkened and I heard in the distance what sounded like a rumbling of Harley-Davidson's. I started to paddle back quickly...and, of course, as Murphy's Law would have it, the wind changed direction and I was paddling again into the wind. About halfway back the clouds caught up w/me and it rained big drops for 2 different 30-second periods. Cold rain! Refreshing rain! I continued my journey back while admiring the nice waterfront homes. I make it back and just as I finished loading my kayak onto the roof of my voiture, the skies opened up and I got a free shower! It felt so good too. Afterwards, I changed shirts and I went inside to the Shymanski's Restaurant and Bar and had me the best soft-shell crab sandwich. It was giant! Delicious too!
Washed it down with 6 tall glasses of ginger ale. I guess I was thirsty too. Seriously, this place has a fantastic soft-shell crab sandwich. I'll be back again to explore the Wicomico River in the other direction from the marina.
