8/4:
Dead bait on live line
Cow nose ray takes it away
Time for a Sleigh ride!
8/11
The line runs out fast
Powerfull pulling slacks off
Leaving half a spot.
Both
Targeting the bait
Slightly bigger fish play too
Grill them for dinner
[/Haiku]
Both outings were the same drill, up "early," Tandem SIK with two out of the Rose Haven launch, pause on the old oyster bar to catch baits, then out to the green can to try livelining.
Similar results too:
Earthwooms on small hooks not only produced bait, but caught a mix of super-sized spot, white perch, and small croackers. We kepts the keeper-sized to grill for dinner. Both days it was easy to catch "enough"
Liveling was not so productive - a few pull-downs that resulted in returns of partial baits or missing baits. Once we got it close enough to see it was a rock before it got off the hook - that time we only got hte hook back.
We hooked the ray when we returned a partial bait to the water to see if we could catch whatever was chewing on them.
Next time out I'm going to try adding stingers....circle hooks don't seem to be doing the job.
