  • Back River Fishing/Crabbing 8/31

Crabbing sucked for me, not a single keeper, I'm retiring from crabbing this year...
Fishing provided a little bit of excitement though:

The shoreline was loaded with Perch too, none very big, but they were pulling almost every cast. All fish caught on a 1/8 oz roadrunner with chart gulp minnow on my UL rod. I really only spent an hour or less fishing in total.
Might have to go back for a fishing only trip...

Luckily my dad and grandfather did better than me and pulled in a couple dozen in his boat. He gave me 8 nice crabs, add corn on the cob and that will be a decent dinner for me and the wife tonight...

They were crabbing more out in the channel. I picked up from closer to shore, moved out next to them and crabbing shutoff completely out there too, what the hell!

That's a nice striper on the ultra lite! Where did you launch?

I launched from Rocky Point park. There are two ramps in the park, I used the one furthest out to the point, which makes it an easy run to the main river. Rocky Point park is free if you get there before the attendant is there...

Good work On the striper and Atleast you got to eat some crabs. Crabbing really has been off lately. Ran 1000 ft trotline from the boat in the little choptank yesterday an only managed a dozen.

Have not been there in a while, but I like that place. Lots of free parking. Easy paddle in a somewhat protected area. I launch off the boat ramp via Dandy St. It's suppose to be a flounder and speck area, but I don't know the recent bites.

I feel both of you. If you can find them, a few dozen to 1/2 bushel seems to be the norm right now. I remember the days on my canoe with me and a buddy, it was not unusual to catch two bushels.

Thank you for the clarifying the actual location. Tufnik and I got the wrong river. I will hit back River, in VA, in October for Specks

                    Thanks
