I fished the Bay Bridge from 7:30-1:30. On my way out, I wanted to pick up a trolling bait bucket from Anglers, so I decided to get some Spot while I was there. The day seemed calm as I headed out but as I got closer to the rockpile I talked to two kayakers heading back in who said the current was too strong to hold position. I figured I would head out that way and possibly anchor up. I didnt get all the way there though as I noticed the wind had picked up and was going the same direction as the current. Additionally, rain clouds were moving in, so I anchored and took a few casts at a bridge piling and decided to head in. In pulling up my anchor, it got snagged and I had to cut it off. Bummer. By the time I got near shore, the rain has stopped and the wind seemed to die down a bit. I fished for White Perch for a bit and decided to try paddling back out to see if the conditions were better. The tide had changed and the wind was now blowing against the current. It made for a bouncy ride, but I was able to get back to a bridge piling to hide behind and use up the rest of my Spot. I caught two Stripers, but neither were keepers. This was my first successful live lining for Stripers though, so I was pleased and glad I decided to paddle back out. Next time... getting a keeper or two!

    Nice adventure there

Yeah, the currents at the BB can be interesting. Add wind and tide, and it can get hairy around those pilings. Hiding behind a piling is a good idea, and actually, I have caught a lot of fish while hiding out.

One thing I have noticed, is that some pilings seem to hold lots of little fish, while others hold fewer but larger fish. Not sure if this is true or just an impression.

Way to hold tight and catch fish. I have made five trips to the BB and yet to find calm conditions. So far I have caught quantity and not quality...I am not complaining but wouldn't mind a fat slob in my cooler.
