  • Big Muskie at Conowingo

Someone caught a BIG muskie at the conowingo dam this weekend. If I didn't see the picture, I never would have believed it! I wonder if these guys are cruising around the weed beds on the flats. This is the first I'd ever seen this.

It might have been caught below the dam, but it came from the reservoir. Muskies don't live in the lower Sus.

You'd be surprised what lives below the dam .............. I caught a tiger Muskie there back in the early 80's ........ there is a thriving walleye, small mouth bass, largemouth bass, bluebill, crappie, carp, pike, striper etc etc etc etc population below the dam ......... it always has been one of the best fisheries in the nation since the 1800's ..........

                  Beautiful fish.

Funny thing. Maryland used to stock hybrid Tiger Muskie in the upper Potomac, but they didn't do well. Catching a Tiger Muskie now is rare, but what's interesting is that you have a better chance of catching a real muskellunge on the Potomac... around the Antietam Creek area.

I heard there was another caught below the dam last year as well. I've never caught a musky despite a trip to western PA a couple of years ago to target them...no dice.
