Lower Susquehanna Stripers

Went out Saturday(11/16) evening on the lower Susquehanna with my brother looking for striped bass. We found a few 12''-14'' and eventually he landed an 18'' fish.

Having missed a few seemingly larger ones, we decided to go out Sunday(11/17) morning as well. Caught some small ones leading up to two for me at 18.5'' and 19'' and another for my bro at 19''.

All fish caught with jig heads and soft plastics. Couldn't get any top water action.

Nice job...I was close by, at the Bush River RR bridge. Limited out, but it took six hours.

I just fished there this past weekend. I had zero luck. There's not a lot of places you can go because you can't get too close to the dam and it's really shallow to the south. There must be fish that pass through. I had some big marks on the ff but couldn't land them. They could be catfish or carp too. I wanted to catch some walleye there, but i'm not a walleye fisherman so I am learning through experimentation. There were a few people in kayaks fishing there. It can get a little crowded with a few people fishing the same area.

I've always heard that when river temps drop below 50F that stripers start exiting the river. Some may stay in the dam's large plunge pool a while longer but for the most part they will be thinning out from the shallows bigtime.

Its free at the fisherman's park just below the dam. Its a couple bucks for MD residents down at Lapidum.

Be careful when launching at Fisherman's park. You need to know when the generating schedule calls for a water release, even if it is not totally accurate.
Check the USGS gauge for a tendency of release and river height and call the hot line.
When you hear the sirens, get out of dodge!. The river comes up quickly and the water velocity can be frightening. And the current really rips directly in front of the launch area.
Been there, done that, rolled the canoe there once, never again.
You cannot go close to the dam.
There are stripers, catfish, walleyes, and smallies in the river around the island just across from the launch.
It is a free launch, easy access to the water.
I have also launched above the Mill at Rockland Run (steep carry), Deer Creek, medium launch with limited parking, or further down river at Lapidum, $11.00 fee, very easy access. Further down in Havre de Grace there are other launch points if you are interested in Yellow Perch in a couple of months.
